Creative Youth Agency Advocates for the Education of Children with Disabilities

About this campaign

“I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children’s laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to ‘’( WHITNEY HOUSTON)

Creative Youth Agency partnered with Centre for Visually Impaired Children (CEVIC), a primary school for ONLY blind children. It’s one of the few schools in Uganda that offer educational services to blind children between 4-16 years, i.e. from Preschool to Primary 7 level. CEVIC’s mission is to be a key player in reducing the consequences of ignorance associated with disabilities, through provision of accessible, affordable, appropriate quality education and psychosocial services for people with disabilities prioritizing blind children and their parents.

Just like any other child, Creative Youth Agency (CYA), believes that blind children too have a right to education. Because CYA’s ultimate goal on this campaign is to have a complete integration of the blind into society on a basis of equality, we advocate for the education of these children right from the grass root. If a blind person learns the basic skills that are needed, learns how to walk, how to talk, with a good educational background, learns good daily living skills, and has been trained properly which comes primarily from a school offering disability-specific services, that individual can succeed.

“The life of a man consists not in seeing visions and in dreaming dreams, but in active charity and in willing service.” Henry Wadsworth Longfellow CEVIC is tasked to give children tape recorders and computers, and maybe a smattering of Braille. These children need to have a concentration in Braille. Being without Braille to the blind person is like taking paper and pencil away from a sighted person. When you don’t have that, all of the machines in the world aren’t going to help you.
Whether individuals or organizations, let us support the education of the blind or visually impaired children by extending a helping hand towards educational institutions for the blind or visually impaired like CEVIC.
